Coraline was inspired by a soft blue and white, serene bedroom. The pillow needed to be subtle so that it didn’t appear heavy and dark. The idea is quite simple…outline the flowers and fill petals and background in neutrals. In order to create more depth and interest for this simple concept, a dyed mottled light blue was used to outline the flowers resulting variation in values. Filling the flowers and the background required a variety of neutrals. These were hooked in an “antigodlin” or “higgledy piggledy” technique for the background and painterly for the flowers. On a piece such as this, it is the subtleties that create rich results.
Coraline is available as a pattern or kit 20×20.
