Fall is a busy time in the rug hooking world and this year is no exception. The shows, gatherings, classes and schools all seem to culminate at this time. The cool weather and the approaching winter seem to trigger our desire to hunker down in our homes and allow ourselves the luxury of spending more time hooking. Sounds a lot like our predecessors……after the harvest and the winter set in, there were fewer chores allowing them to spend time at their rug hooking frames.
Fall is my favourite season, and what is more appropriate than hooking leaves? Hooking with RED!!!!

I love this colour combo. The two leaf cushions were hooked for a client who also purchased the two Nordic pillows. Each pillow is a different design, however they work so beautifully together because they are hooked in the same colors. I find it difficult to hook a pattern more than one time and have only once hooked the same piece twice. I found myself struggling to finish. I think its because I already knew how it was going to turn out. The planning and anticipation of seeing the results unfold as I hook are the things that motivate me. These cushions solve the problem. Different designs, same colour plan.
The leaves are hooked in a painterly style (workshop in painterly style hooking is posted on the classes page if anyone is interested in this technique) and the background is hooked horizontally in multiple reds to attain the woven effect as I did in the Nordic pillows. These patterns are all available on the website.

And speaking of patterns, if you are looking for new designs check out the latest from Sarah Skrlj (see previous post as well). These beautiful florals are calling to me. I only have approximate sizes right now and will finalize them soon.
