When we think of fall, the first thing that comes to mind are the incredible colours of autumn leaves. The Caledon countryside at this time of year is especially inspiring for artists. The scenic drive through the Forks of the Credit will soon be in its full fall glory and every time, it takes my breath away. My new mat was inspired by sumac which is plentiful here. As the weather cools, it transforms into an impressive display of rich colour. It amazes me that so many variations can be found on one plant. In our new pattern “Sumac”, I attempt to capture the colour play in a single frond using a painterly style of hooking and a good variety of textured and dyed wools. Our “Studio Natural” dyed wools were especially valuable in this piece as it allowed the loops to blur into each other instead of creating distinct loops and rows. If you haven’t tried our new wool yet, then this is the perfect time to add some to your stash. For a very limited time we are offering 10% off “Studio Natural” dyed wools in both the mottled solids and spot dyes. Use coupon code “FALL10” before midnight September 16th to apply the discount when you checkout online. We will also honor this discount in the studio. “Sumac” pattern 14×27 available on New Arrivals and Martina Lesar Patterns pages
If you are interested in this style of hooking, “Painterly Leaves” is a workshop that I teach in the studio occasionally. The upcoming class is full, however I do plan on scheduling another in the new year. For future workshops, check the classes page often for updates and posting of new classes.
